Water ripples that follow your cursor — the same effect you are looking at now.
The ripple you see across this whole site started here. Two rings, a section color, and a little idle detection so it only fires when you stop moving.
It’s the smallest possible idea — make the cursor leave a wake — and it ended up setting the tone for everything else.
